anchor Description
This project provides for State-funded planning, design, and construction of bike facilities along Randolph and Cherry Hill Road from Plum Orchard Drive to Gracefield Road, a distance of approximately 1,000 linear feet. The project will upgrade existing facilities and complete missing segments in line with the Montgomery County Bicycle Master Plan. The Bicycle Master Plan recommends a separated bikeway. Where feasible, drainage, intersection safety, and lighting improvements will be included in the scope of the project.
Since no facility planning has been completed, the Department of Transportation will identify logical segments that can be built within the constraints of available state funding during the preliminary design phase. The proposed limits will establish a connection to the bike lanes installed by the developer of VIVA White Oak (https://vivawhiteoak.com/) between Gracefield Road and the Montgomery and Prince George's County line.
anchorEstimated Schedule
Design to begin in FY24 and be completed in FY26. Land acquisition will be completed in FY27 and construction will be completed in FY28.
anchor Justification
This bikeway facility was identified as a Tier 1 recommendation of the Bicycle Master Plan that is located within an Equity Focus Area. Additionally, developments such as Viva White Oak, the new Adventist Healthcare White Oak Medical Center, and expansion of the FDA campus warrant efforts to improve pedestrian and bicyclist facilities to increase transportation options.
