As part of the FY 2027 Capital Budget and FY 2027-2032 CIP, MCPS had proposed closing Silver Spring International Middle School (SSIMS) in July 2030 and converting the facility into a holding school. Under that proposal, Eastern and Sligo middle schools would have absorbed most of, if not all, of the SSIMS student enrollment. Both schools would have required major capital projects to add capacity and upgrade infrastructure. Since the proposed closure of SSIMS has been deferred pending future consideration, no capital project is currently required at Sligo Middle School.
