District 1 includes the communities of Bethesda, Cabin John, Chevy Chase, Garrett Park, Glen Echo, Friendship Heights, North Bethesda, Potomac, Poolesville, Randolph Hills, and Somerset.

The most geographically diverse of the districts, District 1 encompasses urban centers, suburban communities, rural countryside, the Agricultural Reserve, and numerous National and County parks and trails. Residents enjoy proximity to historic Glen Echo Park, the C&O Canal towpath, and the Capital Crescent Trail in addition to an array of other outdoor recreational options including golf courses, tennis and ice skating facilities, a riding stable, a family-oriented nature center and numerous athletic fields.
