The Mattress and Box Spring Recycling program is located in the Upper Lot of the Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station across from the Household Hazardous Waste Program area.

Driver's License will be scanned to track the number of mattresses each resident and business brings to the facility.
Restrictions on the acceptance of commercial mattresses and box springs
Effective Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the Montgomery County Transfer Station will begin restrictions on the acceptance of commercial mattresses and box springs. Mattresses arriving in commercial loads (Stake Bodies, Open Tops, etc.) will not be accepted unless they are accompanied by a residential manifest verifying same-day collection within Montgomery County, and loads without a manifest will be rejected. Additionally, all other Commercial mattresses will be turned away and not permitted for disposal on the tipping floor at any time.
Acceptable Items:
Mattresses and Box Springs such as, but not limited to:
- Adjustable base mattresses
- Hybrid mattresses – spring coils with multiple layers of foam
- Innerspring mattresses
- Latex mattresses
- Memory foam mattresses
- Metal and wood bed base foundations and/or box springs.
More specifically, mattresses and box springs mean any resilient material or combination of materials that is enclosed by ticking, used alone or in combination with other products, and that is intended for or promoted for sleeping upon. Mattresses and Box Springs include any foundation, renovated foundation or renovated mattress or box spring.
Unacceptable Items:
- Car bed
- Crib or bassinet mattress
- Fold out sofa bed or futon
- Juvenile products including:
- Carriage
- Crib bumper
- Dressing table
- Infant carrier
- Lounge pad
- Pads for juvenile products
- Playpen
- Stroller
- Pillows
- Products that contain liquid- or gaseous-filled ticking, including any adjustable water/gel/air bed/mattress that does not contain upholstery material between the ticking and the mattress core
- Sleeping bags
- Unattached pillow top/mattress topper/mattress pad/under pad, including any item with resilient filling, with or without ticking, that is intended to be used with, or on top of a mattress.
- Upholstered furniture that does not contain a detachable mattress
